The plant continues to operate today as part of ADM. On Oct. 5th, 1960, the plant was the subject of a spectacular explosion and fire that took days to bring under control. The fire was rumoured to have been picked up by a new technology (satellite imagery). It was eventually subdued with the assistance of the E.M.
