On switching duty at the Maple Leaf Mill. The plant went into production in 1911 and was touted as the largest mill of its kind in the British Empire. The plant continues to operate today as part of ADM. On Oct. 5th, 1960, the plant was the subject of a spectacular explosion and fire that took days to bring under control. The fire was rumoured to have been picked up by a new technology (satellite imagery). It was eventually subdued with the assistance of the E.M. Cotter, an American fire boat from Buffalo's Grain district, some 20 miles to the east. https://www.wbfo.org/heritage-moments/2015-11-09/heritage-moments-cotter-fireboat-comes-to-the-rescue-in-port-colborne Today ADM takes very few rail shipments, except during the winter months when Great Lakes shipping is closed (January to March).
