I remember going to Winona about the beginning of October, 1975; because I wanted to shoot a freight as well as the Budds going by. I was shocked when arriving, only strands of the east wall and the blade pole were left standing. Not something that was easy to forget, and worse, I did not find a news article on the fire either. I could still smell the smoke, so it had happened in the week before I showed up there. ( A lot of stations along the peninsula fell to the flames; besides Winona, Grimsby, Merritton, Thorold were others.
The proud namesake of a CN Heavyweight 12 section / drawing room sleeper….now both are gone!
