Not all the older cab cars were pulled from service. There were a couple running around. Most were not stored, but used in the middle of a train with bells removed. Most likely the any being painted will also be used as a coach
That’s true. But the only old cab cars I’m concerned about are the ones on the end of trains. Allegedly the first 15 cab cars (200-214) are all up or going up to North Bay to be repainted. I think you’re right that those ones will be coaches but we won’t know for sure until something happens.
I get to see some of the old ones every day at work running rule 42′s. It brings back memories for me when i used to operate these cab cars when working at CN
Hi Isaac, neat picture ! Not only great to see “square end” older cab cars leading again, but your very nice picture of this scene will be historical in a few years. Metrolinx is already working on the engineering to rebuild the Scarborough Jct with a “fly under” from east bound Kingston Sub to northbound Uxbridge Sub. Plans call for construction of a 4th track east from Don Cherry St tower up Danforth and Scarborough hills to this station. So big changes coming to this scene. Thanks very much for posting, John
These old cab cars bring back memories of when I was young and grew up with family in Newmarket.
Also, I’d be interested to find other shots from this bridge (especially from years past) as I can’t seem to find anyone who has shot GO, VIA, CN, etc. from this bridge.
Isaac, Your comment about growing up in Newmarket brings back good memories. For decades, I was a “cottage commuter” (Eastbourne, Lake Simcoe) and once GO transit took over from CN, using GO Bus (Sutton-Newmarket) connecting with GO train in Newmarket to Toronto. Much enjoyed riding in these cab cars northbound. In those days there was no crew barrier and you could sit right across from the engineer, getting a great view of the Newmarket Sub r-of-w all the way to Newmarket. Most engineers were very friendly, kept the cab door open, and had many an engaging conversation.
Work has already started on the 4th track from Cherry St towards Scarborough Jct.
FYI, trains on the Uxbridge Sub are Eastbound and Westbound, not north and south.
I guess its possible that I watched you go by on a GO train years ago lol.
What kind of “fly under” is Metrolinx building and how will it affect the CN local that works the Uxbridge sub? Do we know yet?
