A locomotive model I wish I had more time to document. Bombardier's HR-616 never lived up to its builders expectation, but was certainly an impressive sight out on the rails. In the early 1980's CN purchased a number of examples of the model, which was basically an upgraded M-636. Unfortunately very problematic, the units spent as much time out of service as in service. They were captive to Eastern Canada and by this date were not far from retirement along with the rest of the surviving MLW and BB units on CN's roster. Here HR-616 2107 leads Niagara bound train 449 through Aldershot on a nice summer's day.

  1. Great photo Marcus. Yes, this was the last summer for them on CN.

  2. We lost a lot of old MLW/BBD’s in 1998 unfortunately, with both CN and CP cleaning out their rosters.
