Seeing these two WP&Y locomotives came as a bit of a surprise to me. Up till then I not aware of any WP&Y locomotives working in the lower mainland and had given them no thought whatsoever. I stopped long enough to take 4 photographs prior to continuing on to BCR shop area. WP&Y #1 was sitting on it's wheels & WP&Y #2 was sitting on the ground with it's wheels removed. To the best of my knowledge #1 went to logging museum in Duncan BC and #2 was cut up and #1 was the only WP&Y locomotive that I managed to photographed in in it's original colors. Also I have no idea if the two locomotives worked up north prior to working in North Vancouver, but I believe that they were there to move the WP&Y containers around.

  1. Now that is quite something to see. Some of the old WP&Y locos and equipment sure get around. In 2016 I noted two WP&Y tank cars at the tourist road (Sumpter Valley) in Sumpter, Oregon. And two WP&Y units on the DSNG in Durango, CO.

  2. Thank you Mr Mooney for your comment! There were many interesting Pieces of WP&Y equipment in the Yukon. Some quite old & some not so old. I tried to get as many photographs as I could. Loved watching #73 in steam. Never saw an ALCO/MLW unit while I was in Whitehorse.

  3. You’re welcome. I had erred in my missive…..the units in Durango arrived only recently. I still have to find a way to get down there to see them before they get painted over. Sumpter Valley had all kinds of relics on site…..most interesting place. I’ve never been to the Yukon, and as the years are going by and the tourists are becoming like lemmings up that way, I may never get there.
