This shot obviously is just for the purposes of nostalgia. Quite the crowd for a Wednesday. But, it is summer and the fans area gathered.
I don't remember this particular day but I am sure someone took charge and had all the guys move their cars as you see them in order to "de-clutter" the area when the TH&B Starlight came thru; which would be of course on the track on the right side of the scene, heading into Hamilton.
So what happens, TH&B goes by (74-401-72) as expected, and since it is getting late and the sun angle is bad, and the social scene carries on. As well, the Wednesday edition of CN 6060 excursion train was due shortly.
Off the hill comes a freight, CN 9612, 9559 and 9660 & caboose 79277. A lot of guys let it go, but for me, it was an opportunity to capture a scene that I knew would not be repeated in the years down the road.
This location is off limits now. My car is third from the bottom, dark blue 1976 Mercury Cougar. Lot of interesting old Detroit "boats" filling the lot on this particular early evening.

  1. WOW a “foamers” convention! Those were the days huh AW :-)

  2. We never really knew how good we had it.
Now, they have even set up security across the road from the walkbridge. Pay to Park machines and everywhere else they have put up ‘No Parking’ signs. The greed for money is overwhelming. I know that I will not pay a couple of bucks in hopes a train might happen by.

  3. The blue wagon is the late Bill McArthur’s

  4. And, Bruce; the ‘green machine’ (Dodge) belonged to (the late) Bill Townsend. Mine is the blue Cougar next to that.

  5. Interesting load on the autorack too, I wonder if those might have been engine/hood/chassis intended to be built into school buses.
