Caption: On June 16, 2020 a light work day for the crew of CN L568 required the use of only a solo unit west from Kitchener. Having been set-off by CN L533 the night prior, CN GMD1u 1408 departed Kitchener for Stratford light power and eventually headed west to London to work HCL. Pictured here L568 has just crossed the Nith River and is approaching the Perth Street bridge, just west of the town of New Hamburg.
Less than a year later on March 10, CN had retired a large portion of the 1,200 horsepower GMD1’s that were still on the active roster, including units; 1408, 1412, 1437, 1440 and 1444. These units had been placed in storage out of service at CN’s MacMillan Yard in Toronto during the past winter.

I wonder what fate awaits these units in the future… It happened before in 2014/2015, I hope they will run again. But even if they don’t their legacy will remain as the image of Canadian Railroading.
@Dan L- Yes very true. So unmistakably Canadian.
