Caption: With just a hint of evening glow, Vancouver Wharves 24, a former CNR S2, putters its way along the waterfront passing some of the many rail served industries. The unit was built by MLW in June 1949 as CNR 8141, and was the last S2 CNR would receive. It was retired in 1973 and sold to Vancouver Wharves. Photos show the unit operating into at least 1978, disposition unknown.
Those familiar with the Ontario Southland Railway roster will know there are two former Vancouver Wharves units that made their way to Oxford County. OSRX 500, a 1956 ALCO S6 built for the Southern Pacific was Vancouver Wharves 29, and OSRX 502, a 1959 MLW S13 from the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, operated as Vancouver Wharves 827. The 502 was sold along with OSR 501 to the Waterloo Central Railway in 2018, now appearing as WCR 1001 and 1002.
