This outdated structure was torn down in the early 1980s. McKerrow station had outlived its usefulness, and like many others along the northern lines; living quarters for now departed agents was a thing of the past. Replacing the building was a modern compact MoW office and storage building. And the Huron Central power has replaced the CP.
Note in 1976 this station was still active. It was located at the junction of the CPR and the old Algoma Eastern that came up from Espanola (Little Current Sub) only a couple of miles south. The location, with its small yard and wye is still rather active; due to its proximity to the Pulp and Paper mill at Espanola. Driving that long stretch from the SOO to Sudbury, following the HCR can be rather quiet, but usually something can be found on the line working at McKerrow.

  1. Another beauty Arnold! Do you know of this buildings disposition when the railway no longer required it? I’m only asking cause I assume it met the ‘wreckers ball’….but I find it interesting it is similar in design to the designated ‘Upsala’ station building located at a museum just south of Thunder Bay.

  2. Thanks. I only know it was “demolished” according to someone I talked to last fall. But he might have just said that because it was gone. I know it did not undertake a move. I’ve not seen the restored Upsala, but did post a shot of the sta in situ much earlier on RP.

  3. Yes, this station is definitely no longer there.
