Caption: One of Amtrak's trains with an "on again, off again" history is the Montrealer. Initially begun in 1972 (first southbound trip was September 30th), the train was suspended between April 1987 and July 1989 due to slow timing over Guilford track. Once restored, it ran on its overnight schedule for almost another six years before changed to a day train and originating at St. Albans, Vermont on April 1, 1995. Apparently the Montrealer was the first train to use Amtrak on-board personnel because there weren't any holdover staff from its private railroad predecessor. Here we see the southbound train making its first stop on its way to Washington at the Montreal suburb of St-Lambert behind F40PH 404.
