Caption: New country. New name.
It is as easy as this. Just like an 'iron on' patch, the new name Port Colborne Harbour Railway is applied to what was very recently the New York & Lake Erie C-425 from over the river. Yeah, it looks easy, but these two guys seemed to have a real problem getting this lettering on straight. This was late in the day. Maybe the voracious mosquitos were bothering them. I know they sure tested me. The official Grand Opening of the new PCHR (now GIO Trillium) was less than 10 days away.
The locomotive worked the PCHR as their only unit at the start up; and went back to the NYLE in 2001. In 2007 it was dealt to the Delaware-Lackawanna at Scranton, PA, where it still rolls today. It began in 1966 as PRR 2423, so it has had a good life.

We were there that day. I thought this was Dad’s photo when I first saw it. Good show.
And I wondered why I did not see you guys there………….8 or 9 days BEFORE the grand opening. I am surprised you made the trek the same day I did. Was the “new Name” procedure announced or something? I came across it because I was watched day by day at that time.

We had to have been there with you. We spent the day in Buffalo and must have happened upon this coming home. I have a photo with no lettering, a photo of the same two guys taping up the letters, and a third with all the lettering laid out, but not yet applied.
Yeah, don’t remember. I checked my notebook and I shot a CN in Port Rob, a #335 and #327 in Fort Erie that day. And then to WH yard later.
If we talked, it was probably just briefly, but I do not recall at all. Someone took my picture in the cab, and I don’t think it was you guys.
Those two up there did a LOT of bumbling, and you might have left by the time I shot this.
