Caption: EMD's three window cab design was only used on its F59PH, SD60M and the CP only SD40-2F models. CP had no interest in the SD60 at the time a pushed EMD to revive the SD40-2 model even though the builder at the time had moved on to bigger and better designs. CP loved the SD40 and collected a fleet of hundreds at the time, unfortunately the SD40-2F never lived up to CP's expectations with a number of issues arising over the years and in the end the small fleet of so called "Red Barns" would be eliminated from the roster a lot sooner then expected. Many standard cab SD40-2's are still running for the Class One railroad today. In an interesting twist of fate CP's purchase of the CMQ would bring several of the surviving SD40-2F's back to its former owner, and surprisingly most are still active today. I have to admit, while I liked the units in CP paint, the CMQ part looks much more impressive. Thanks to a tip today I was able to catch both CMQ 9020 and 9011 assigned to a ballast train headed for the Hamilton subdivision to dump ballast along the line. With CP trains #246, 247 and 254 all in the area, the train was forced to hold the main at Milton for an hour while the other traffic was cleared out of the way.
