Caption: One can only imagine the generations of little railfans and their parents that have spent time under the shelter of the station overhang at Georgetown. If those old wooden walls and stone foundation could only talk, the stories they could tell. Today a few spare hours allowed for a trip through one of my favorite towns and a few photos. On arrival at the station my boys and I crossed paths first with VIA 86. A few minutes after its departure a green signal was lit for CN 394, soon a father and very young son arrived on bikes. As a parent fond memories soon filled my head as I watched the two bond over something that has given myself and my now older boys so much joy. While my boys worried the pair would get into their shots, I made sure they would make my shot. Railfanning for me in recent years has changed my focus as the motive power gets more same old, same old. It is nice from time to time changing the main focus of an image. I figured the motive power would most likely be run of the mill Gevos, and was right, so the father son combination certainly made the shot. It's always amusing watching small children cover their ears as the large locomotives storm past, but for some reason they never want to back away, taking it all in, and a toot from the horn always fills their eyes with excitement. What an amazing Hobby this is !

Great pic Marcus. A good father you are! As a kid I did all my railfanning (Spadina shops, CP mailnine through Scarborough and Agincourt yard) by myself. I think my parents would have been bored.
I have to say one of my greatest joys as an engineer was to see father/son (kids on dads shoulders) at Georgetown and other stations watching trains. When I was stopped there waiting to a better signal, I would often go on the platform and talk with the young railfans and their dads. They loved asking questions and occasionally( before it became a no no) bring the dad/son up on the locomotive to see the cab. The excitement on their faces was priceless, especially when I let them ring the bell or blow the horn. When I got a better signal it was time to go, but not before a ring or the bell and a blast of the horn. LOL, covering of the ears when I throttled up was funny to watch. Thanks for the memories of what made being an engineer much more than a job!
I was lucky enough to have a friendly crew at Georgetown let us up into the cab a few years ago. Maybe it was you, LoL. It is so nice when a friendly crew makes kids days. Who knows those kids maybe the next generation of railroaders or at least railfans.
