Caption: Some days Murphy wins, and a long day gets longer. This trains crew started at around 9am. 5 hours and a mere 35 miles later, one of their 2 engines packs it in for the day(7006). There's no way the lone remaining engine can pull the 10000+ feet of train up the Niagara Escarpment and the the Grand River "dip", so a rescue is required...and a fresh crew. 9 hours after it started, and now 65 miles done, 147's huge train struggles into Cambridge about to do battle with Orr's Lake hill. It will take about 30 minutes to cover the next 3 miles. Modern railroading is about weight moved; not speed.

Oh those 7000 series are real treats, aren’t they? I’ve had enough trouble just catching them with both ditchlights functioning.

It appears they’re starting to lead again, which is a nice change, as they’re a real treat in a sea of GE’s. Why CP is buying more of them is a management question I don’t understand, as they seem to be shop queens. But I’ll still leave the house just to see them….
