Caption: CN 2141 clatters across the turnout as it approaches Oshawa from the east. The train is E271, which predominantly handles automobile traffic but as seen here can also pull containers from time to time. Over the last few months CN has been putting an unusually high number of these endangered Dash 8 locomotives in the lead of trains on the Kingston Subdivision, and I'll continue to take full advantage of that while I can.
The pair of tracks on the right were once part of a yard that occupied all the open space between the mainline and the track furthest right. It's largely disappeared over the last few years with the closure of the Oshawa GM plant, but it was usually empty for nearly a decade prior to that. Now that it's been announced that Oshawa GM will be reopening, it's hard to say whether this yard and the others scattered around the plant will be used again. I hope that's the case, or at the very least I hope I get to photograph some new automotive trains here in the future.

This was the Stevenson Road Yard. I recall seeing this yard full of cars in the later part of the 1990′s, predominately autoparts, on a total of six tracks. The leads into the plant trackage, where the autoparts cars were destined, peeled off the yard at the southwest end. One track on the south side would most certainly have normally been left clear to allow access to the plant trackage.
There was also a smaller three track yard on the east side of the Park Rd overpass which was effectively an extension of the one seen in your picture.
