The early morning sun is pouring into the cab and it is time for the 7518's crew to head for the shop track. I saw them working in the Scona area as I drove down the Sherwood Park Fwy. I knew it would not be long until they came puttering home.

  1. Nice shot Seth. The weathering on these units seem to indicate that they’ve been working together for a very long time. :)

  2. Thanks Joe.
That will be the main reason I put this up. The stripes are pretty much gone off the body of the 7518. :-) The only zebra left is on the raised walkway behind the conductors side of the cab. Those raised walkways on the conductors side are not original, added later when re-built for hump duties. They must have cabling (slug or hump) or whatever in them with all the louvers.

  3. Wow! That will be engineers side. I see his yellow vest and think conductor. Everyone wears colours on the job now, including whoever is driving. :-)

  4. While I am reluctant to say that “all” of the 7500s are set up for long hood forward operation, I can say from personal experience that at least this one and 7520 are. So you had it right, this would be the conductor’s side.

  5. Thanks for that Matt. I went and checked some of that out. When coupled to a slug, front was/is the leading nose of the slug. When seeing these coupled in sets with units to the outside, slugs to the inside, it looked like a butt to butt configuration. In actual fact all 4 units were pointed forward. Back in the day, the 7518 even had an all weather window on the other side. Also, in 2013, there is a photo of it in Sarnia riding a flatcar, missing its trucks.

  6. Off to the shop track? Maybe they can splash a coat of paint on them! Very nice shot.

  7. Love the ratty old units. 7518 looks spectacular IMO. No need to ruin that with the overly glossy paint they’ve put on some of the robot 38-2s around here.

  8. @james I’m not a fan of the web address. So i’ll take 7518′s ‘scheme’ over it. ;)

  9. Some new paint, but only in stripes for me. I’m not to crazy about any of the new paint jobs. It might be time for CN to come up with something completely different again (colour change). The stripes and different black noodle schemes have been in service nearly 60 years.
Thanks for the comments guys. :-)

  10. @Brundle I like the combo 1 stripe and Noodle..maybe more stripes? Just not the web address. I’ve got a line up of stripes on my Model RR btw. ;)

  11. That is perfect Brad. If I had a layout in my basement, it would be powered by CN stripes too. :-)
