Caption: I mentioned in a previous post that the regular crew had the Coronado Sub. mostly to themselves. On Thursday's, as in this photo, a spare crew was called for the fuel run to the Cold Lake airforce base. The base required 2 trains a week to keep the planes topped up. Typically, a meet was set up close to Edmonton, Redwater often being chosen, between the returning regular crew and the spare crew heading out. In this photo, 836 is a solid train of 16 tanks, headed up by a single unit, the 5578. The grain extra can be seen in the siding at Redwater with the headlight dimmed and waiting. These meets usually happened around 11:00 with the spare crew returning late Thursday night or early Friday morning. The little siding into the culvert plant in the foreground did not have much time left. Frog and switch will be removed in the near future. Of interest, film used is Konica 100asa print film, it does look a little different than Kodak. Why the interest? If you bought 3 rolls from London Drugs, you got a little free Konica clock for your desk. It's been flipping numbers on my desk all this time (with an occasional battery change). :-)
