Caption: A really enjoyable destination back in the mid '90s was to pack the car and head to Wawa, Ont. The Algoma Central, while rather out of the way, was really worth the trip. Times were good, trains relatively plentiful and certainly worth going after. But it all came crashing down once CN took over Wisconsin Central (2001), which in turn had taken over Algoma Central back in 1995.
I made several trips. In 1996 to capture the last of AC paint before it all became WC power. And in 1998 when
I heard the Sinter Plant in Wawa was closing, effectively ending most of the rail activity in the area.
Last time I was there at Hawk Jct was Sept 2020, and it was a ghost town.
Pictured here is a typical afternoon southbound, heading for Sault Ste. Marie with mixed freight. Head end power consisting of WC 6001, 6639, 6582 and 6627 is thundering up the steep grade out of Hawk Junction. The power, the scenery, and the genuine thrill of a chase made this one of my favourite destinations back then.

Holy smokes! Beautiful.
Glad you like!! I felt the same way when I dug this one out of the pile and had a look at it.
This was a tremendous spot to feel the thunder and roar of power up that grade.
