Further to Mr. Mooney's great shot of the Mount Albert station (http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=43929), here's another offering. Unfortunately, I never kept any written records of my adventures but I'm guessing this is the fall of '78. One has to wonder who would be so crazy as to drive a 1976 VW Beetle with a modified Rolls Royce front. Well, ummm, that would be me. Yes, at sixteen years of age I thought it was a pretty cool set of wheels - my first car actually. That silly Beetle lasted around 5 years until all that held it together was rust. I certainly had my share of adventures in it. As I recall, the Rolls Royce modification came with a great looking hood ornament (The Spirit of Ecstacy). On the first day I installed it I parked in downtown Toronto near Ryerson for about 30 minutes - I guess I probably don't need to finish the rest of that story. Grrr... It looks like the folks at the Cannington Historical Society Museum have done a terrific job restoring and displaying this little gem (the building, not the car). It is wonderful that stations like Mount Albert have survived and are available for all to enjoy.

    In retrospect, the rust on the Beetle was a minor annoyance considering the fact that the brakes didn’t work. Kind of amazing that I’m still here.

    Oh Wow! VW beetle stories. :-)
    One of my best memories, and my kids also I bet. When you were small, being allowed to ride in the little cubby hole behind the back seat. Your own private world in the car, complete with window.

    A rusty VW with no brakes?
    Been there, done that.
    Survived.
    Must go north and east to see this old station that you and AWM recorded.
    Who knows?
    Maybe they will let us out again this coming summer.
