Caption: May 2021 be a year of joyful surprises as June 19, 1980 in Toronto was.
Paul Woodring and I were riding a GO train from Burlington into Toronto when I looked over at CN's Spadina engine terminal. I saw smoke! We rushed over to Spadina, signed our releases, and entered the engine facility. CN 6060 was running back and forth on one of the tracks. When it stopped, I asked if we could have a cab ride. Since we had signed photography releases, we were allowed to have our cab ride. We went up and down that piece of track two or three times. Then the ride was over. How blessed we were.
As to this photo, it's not perfectly centered. I know that, but the last thing I was thinking about was perfect photographic composition. I just wanted some slides of CN 6060 all steamed up!

You did just fine, particularly as you caught an FPA4 in the distance. Time for CNR to re-establish a steam heritage program.
Classic experience!! Great memories.
What a great story. Thank you for sharing. Your composition is perfect. There is equipment framing your shot on either side that just makes this classic.
Centered or not, it’s a great picture of 6060, a great narrative and a different view of Spadina engine terminal. Can you imagine your view was 40 years ago ! A nice contrast between 6060 and newer passenger power that replaced it. Well done, thanks for posting which makes a very nice way to end 2020. Happy New Year, John
