Great photo! Interesting how the yellow stripes continue after the CN logo on the 7856, but are absent on the 5095
Yes, there is certainly room to pass them through the hand holds, just as on the 7856. They even painted the hand grabs yellow on the 7856 and blue on the 5095 (I checked this on another photo). Looked into this further. I have another photo from the same time period. The baggage 7855 is used rather than the 7856. Same thing here also, with the stripes passing through the hand holds. The 7855 is also ex-NAR. Painted in different parts of the country, likely the 5095? Thanks Paul.
The baggage was built as a mail & express car for the NAR to the same plan as CPR’s 3600-series M&E’s.
