American Rail crane Model 850-80DE Serial J-3414 delivered to Canadian Furnace (Algoma Steel) in 1957 sits idle with Algoma Central Gondola 735. The rail crane had completed the yard clean up of Victoria Pig Iron and would soon be sent north to ALGOMA STEEL in Sault Ste. Marie. Gondola 735 is not likely to be found on any rolling stock lists for Algoma Central and was part of the home fleet of in-house cars, some of them labelled as Algoma Central and some as Canadian Furnace. The Casting house is the building in behind and the old school bulldozer lacks the creature comforts of today's "yellow goods". It would have been used to scrape the pigs that were stuck in ground so the rail bound mag. crane could load them into the gondolas. Thanks to Paul O'Shell for the rail crane information.

  1. I’d say the bulldozer appears to be a very old (pre-hydraulics) Cat D7 cable dozer, probably 50′s-60′s vintage.

  2. Thanks Mr Dan for the info….M
