Caption: In a twist of fate that will be explained another day, I was invited by the Railway to photograph the movement of two large nuclear pressure vessels destined for the Tennessee Valley Authority Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Hollywood Alabama. Built at BWXT of Cambridge (formerly Babcock-Wilcox) these mammoth 477,179 kilogram beasts were shipped by rail 70 miles by three railways to get to port. The ship would travel to the Gulf of Mexico over to the Mississippi river, transfer the vessels to a barge then move them north to a point for loading back onto railcar to bring them to their final destination.
First posted 3 years ago, this is photographed from the water side of the HPA's Pier 12. More to come..
