Caption: The 15:30 Kitchener Job is returning through Uptown Waterloo from Elmira with GP9RM 4138 during a hazy late summer evening. Normally, photography from this angle was not feasible due to the evening sun, however thanks to the haze a view of the train passing the new Waterloo train station, which was under construction at the time, was made possible.
A year later in 1997, the station would be completed and become the new home of the Waterloo-St. Jacobs Railway (WSJR), which was formed by a group of local investors. However, eventually the City of Waterloo acquired the station in 2000 after WSJR had ceased operations due to operating costs.

Interesting, was that siding purpose built for the train then?
It was neat to see GEXR shove cars in that siding for freight moves in later years, before WCR came to town.
New station? Wish they built more of them like this! And nice you caught ‘The Wrong Guy’ engine in there. Lots of interest in this one!
@BradKetchen- Thanks for the comment. Yes, not often do new stations pop-up. I believe it’s a tourist information centre now.
@Stephen C. Host- Yes they laid the siding track before the station was built for the purpose of the tourist train. And there was the odd occasion that the CN 15:30 Yard Job would arrive in Waterloo before the last run of the WSJR was back for the day. So they would wait at the switch on the north end of the siding for it to clear. Then proceed to Elmira once the WSJR was back. It wasn’t common but it did happen. At least between 1997-1998 prior to the GEXR takeover.
Too bad they didn’t repurpose it for LRT or move it to Northfield.
@dhaisell- Yes its too bad that it’s no longer really relevent to the Waterloo Spur due to the LRT.
