Marge is 79 years young, and as a girl of 20 she had 3 goals in life; she wanted to fly in an airplane, downhill ski and drive a steam locomotive. In those days the first two were pastimes of the wealthy only, but as time carried on she did both, and ended up flying all over the world with her consulting business. The locomotive operation eluded her and all too soon steam gave way to diesels, and she thought her chance had gone for good. Then this year Muskoka Heritage Place announced the Portage Flyer Engineer for a Day program, and she was the first to jump aboard doing 3 of the 4 runs this Canada Day (she observed for the first run). I swear by the end of the day her cheeks must have been hurting like hell from grinning like a kid in a candy store for hours on end! Here her smile was briefly replaced by a look of concentration as she hustled the Flyer down the track to Fairy Lake Station. Marge, it was an honour and a pleasure to fire for you today!

  1. What’s with the penny rolls… ;)

  2. We lay the pennies on the track and drive over them. We then give the flattened pennies to the little kids to keep as souveniers.
