Caption: MARSHALLING THE MIXED - The engineer of Mixed Extra 935 West has just finished marshalling his train at the Bishops Falls yard on April 16, 1988. Within minutes, he will pull ahead and back into the station so that the photographer and his friend Paul, the only two passengers for the complete 138 mile journey to Corner Brook, can board. At Millertown Junction, the mixed will stop to allow Brad Lingard, son of former railroader turned author Mont Lingard, to board until he reaches his cabin at Gaff Topsail. Some 26 years later when shooting retakes for my second book, RAILS AROUND THE ROCK I am invited to Mont's Cabin and meet up again with Brad. We discuss our meeting years earlier and he then amazingly produces a journal where he had recorded meeting the two fellows from St. John's on the mixed on April 16, 1988!
