I’m thinking an acid train from Sudbury.
Nice…a 3-pack of GP wide cabs all elephant style! Question is, was this considered an interesting catch or just same old same old at the time? Either way, you got it on record, and a good one!
Nice one Mr Mooney! Interesting that they used 4 axles in ’78. No SD40′s or MLW 6 axles for power? Especially the possibility for a long run from Sudbury @Dave Brook noted. Love the Elephant style!
I like how fresh they look. Even the anticlimber has glints of sun reflecting off it.
In those days in Ontario, GP40-2′s were the weapon of choice…or as leaders with older power following. The SD40′s were still mostly out west hauling unit trains in those days…trickling east as the SD40-2W’s arrived.
Out West, three of these were standard power for speed freights all the way to Vancouver.
Definitely a sulphuric acid unit acid train en route to the CIL terminal in Niagara Falls.
Thanks Stuart!!! That makes sense. I rarely saw this train. Funny thing, I marked this slide “acid” train when I first labeled it, and some years later for an unknown reason crossed out ‘acid’ and wrote ‘oil’. Had it right the first time. )
And no buffer car back then!
