It is a good thing I do not mind crummy day photography. The weather could not have been much worse in the morning of an Ontario Railway Association fantrip to Owen Sound over the weekend of Thanksgiving, 1974. Here we are at Orangeville, in the morning, peering out and rain, mist, and fog. This dreary view shows the resident CP RS-10 awaiting next assignment; the Crew Quarters/restaurant building (destroyed by fire 03/2006) and in behind one can barely make out the old Orangeville station, a beautiful structure which was moved downtown in the 1980s to serve as a restaurant. Note the old lamps along the walkway. Hard to believe, but regular passenger service ended in 1970, only 4 years previous to this image. Save for Trillium moving freight around, all is quiet on the rails here these days.

  1. Forgot to mention CVR 136 and the 1057 were the power on this train.

  2. Fabulous Arnold! Agreed, one had to be selective with film usage, for many reasons! Note all of the Detroit iron – not an import in sight! Is the white 2 door a Dodge Polara?

  3. Too far for me to tell. “Detroit Iron” was all there ever was in my driveway though.
