An all MLW consist leads CN's Super Continental, train 2, east out of Capreol, Ontario in September 1967. Power is an interesting mix including FPA-2 6752, FPB-2U 6858, and FPA-4 6788. Oh how I now wish I had taken the time to capture all that interesting work equipment visible ahead of the train. And yes, those people did cross in front of the train!!

  1. Great shot Don. Likely some folks from Railway Avenue cutting across the yard to get to the grocery store on the main drag! :-)
I too wish you had captured that interesting Work Equipment in the background.
Likely some occupied boarding cars at the right edge of the photo, and to the left, ahead of CN 6752 is a nice string of old red fleet tool cars, machine flats, material idlers, and even an old heavyweight coach boarding car.
The machine tied down on the flat car is an Electromatic EJ5 tamper with shoulder jacks and an infra red track surfacing system. A state of the art tamping machine back in 1967.

  2. Thanks for the comments Paul. If I remember correctly, that car on the right was a road repair car. Yes, I sure missed a lot of neat stuff back then.
