Caption: After setting off a pair of cylindrical hoppers, a single pick is made. The 1911 built Maple Leaf Mill is on the left, and Government Elevator (Port Colborne Grain Terminal) is on the right. The facility has been managed by Goderich Elevators for at least 30 years. Originally built to replace the original Grand Trunk Elevator (1856), it was designed to "lighten" ship loads so they could transit the shallower draft 3rd Welland Canal. When the canal was deepened in 1932 the need to trans-ship before Canal transit was gone, but the shear size of the 4,000,000 bushel facility ensured its future to this day.
