AMT 1362 is on the rear of a deadhead move that is passing through the combined stations of Canora and Mont-Royal. This line was double-tracked until the summer of 2018 when work started on the REM light rail project. This work necessitated the closure of the existing Canora and Mont-Royal stations, with a new one located roughly halfway between the two stations. The track at right is not in use and has been paved over both north and south of there. This part of the Deux-Montagnes line was supposed to be closed for a number of years starting March 29th, but all work on the REM project has stopped for the time being and trains are still running here.

  1. Michael, thank you for the very nice, most interesting picture and caption. So much has changed when I was last at Portal Heights and Mount Royal platforms taking pictures of the ancient GE 100’s box cab motors, the more burley ex-Harbour Board 180’s and the electric MU cars. I appreciate so much on the update of REM construction and the eventual closure of the Mount Royal Tunnel for conversion to the new REM light rail.
Do the existing electric trains still operating through the Tunnel include trains curving off at EJ Junction on to the Montreal Nord line ? Hopefully I will get to make one more trip through the Tunnel before its closure. Once the Tunnel is closed, where will the Deux-Montanges trains terminate at this end ? Again, many thanks.

  2. Yes, trains run to and from Mascouche run through the tunnel and head east at Eastern Jct. Once the tunnel is closed they will take a longer route to Central Station, via Taschereau Yard and CN’s Montreal Sub. The same route VIA Rail’s trains to northern Quebec take at present.

I believe trains will terminate at Bois-Franc.
