Now this is a great piece of work. Very NICE!
Very cool. And well done.
Just a small note is all the infrastructure on the line including the signals and track was / is CN not Wabash.
Wabash paid for maintenance as per the agreement but CN maintained @everything@ track wise.
Thanks Steve, the tower in Aylmer I believe is Wabash built in the 30’s but had no idea about the signals. Assumed they were from the Wabash era from their rust / age all over the masts. Didn’t know CN signalled the line as well in that time period.
Liam everything was built and maintained by cn. Only thing the Wabash maintained was locomotives crews and some other staff.
The coal tower was built for use by the Wabash during ww2 but would have been CN built. The Wabash dieselized early on too so that coal tower was not used for many years by them but may have seen CN use.
The signals were only at and on approach to some interlockings such as railway crossings and there were many. See an old CN timetable to learn more!
I checked out the timetables and it’s truly weird to see the change over the decades. Thought if the tower was built in the 30′s it would’ve been primarily for the Wabash and built by them too. Interesting stuff none the less.
Liam, I’m going to direct you at some printed books you will want to purchase and/or take out at your local university library if available:
https://www.amazon.ca/Border-Central-Chesapeake-Southern-Ontario/dp/0919487688
https://www.amazon.ca/Rails-Border-Marquette-Chesapeake-Southern/dp/0919487734
The Wabash got their first road diesels in 1950 and was completely diesel by 1953. The Coal tower was built around 1943/44 so only used maximum 9 years by the Wabash. Again, would have been built by CN..
Grab some books, some stuff you just can’t google.
I ain’t doubting ya. It is info from generations ago so answers differ from source to source. Those books in the links, do seem sweet but not for my bank account.
Liam people from that generation are still posting on this site They know the answer too. LOL
Fantastic shot Liam.
very nice work – great composition
