A few snips of info for those who may be interested. The 7295 is a former UP SD90, nothing new there. What I found interesting is it has not received a complete engine overhaul, thus still in the 4300 to 4400hp range with an emission standard of tier 0+. If and when overhauled it will be tier 1+ and 4500hp (nice). It has also been ballasted from 415,000lbs to 432,000. Happily, as can be seen in the photo, it is in service, over half of these units are in storage. (Info gathered from nsdash9.com)
Thanks for the additional context, Larry. I don’t know much about the American railroads – I don’t follow what happens down there at all. When I saw the 7295 coming across the bridge I wasn’t even entirely sure what I had coming towards me. Had to do some googling to see it was a rebuilt UP SD90.
In regard to American railroads, I am in the same boat as you. Little interest. What made me curious, looking close at your photo, you can see the grill on the rads of the 7295 are partitioned into 3 sections. The 1103′s are treated differently. This lead to an info search and the neat fact that these units, when totally rebuilt, have a hp rating of 4500. It will be interesting if there will be a response from GE to equal or better this.
Surprisingly, I did notice that difference between the two units. Usually such details are lost on me.
