Caption: Hard to place this shot. On the map, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Thorold South all come together about here. On the railroad, this was known as CN Iron Bridge, mile 7.7 Grimsby Sub.. Westward running we see CN 2328, 3223, 9635, 4505 and 4580. Last two units I am sure at the time were based in Fort Erie.Anyway, nice winter morning, nice variety of power.

Great shot AW!. This is the small concrete lined creek that seemed to go towards the GM plant. The train should be just about to go by the switch leading into GM and will take the light at the “seaway” over the Welland Canal. Right after that comes the the train order station at Merriton which still had an operator in 1981!
Arnold, just to your right – fed by runoff by the water flowing under the Iron Bridge – was/is* a pond known as “The Mudhole.” Popular for swimming in the summer, and popular for skating when it was frozen. Played hockey there many times.
(* assuming it is still there)
