Caption: The pride of the fleet, CP 9592, leads a 54 car 255 through the Welland Canal tunnel cut on its way towards Welland, Hamilton, and London. This is an angle that comes and goes with movements of racks in and out of storage on the pictured Rusholme Siding. As recently as February, Rusholme was completely void of any racks in storage. Now, many are back, extending from the east end of the siding to just poking out of the west end of the tunnel under the Canal, as pictured. At times, they will stretch much further west than this. I shot a train on the other side of the Canal back in May 2019, and you can see how the racks effect the angle here.

Wow. That engine is in rough shape! I like the contrast between the trailing locomotive. I have to make a trip out to Niagara Region some sunny weekend. It’s been a long time, plus I’m closer now. This is a great spot for shots. And congrats on your 300th photo on RP!
Thanks Kevin – I hadn’t even noticed it was 300!
Niagara is a lot of fun. You do need some level of patience there, and there’s a lot to learn! Without sounding self-important, take a look back at some of my captions – I usually try to put a lot of info in them. Might expedite the learning process for the area.
And agreed, it’s a great spot for shots. The trains that run in the proper direction at the right time of the day for the afternoon sun are few and far between, however.
I missed an over/under here yesterday in perfect sun with Trillium and CP by about 5 or 10 minutes. To get that would be something else. To get an over/under with a ship in the canal during shipping season would be incredible as well – I think I’d like that more than Trillium to be honest. Now all three? Well, one can dream.
Trillium runs on Saturdays now?
1859 was out and about yesterday. I think I saw them at the end of their shift – they were northbound across the bridge on the Canal Spur with what looked like 562′s set off at Feeder from earlier in the day. They set it off in WR Yard then kept going north light power, I assume back to Atlas to call it a day.
Heard them on the scanner again today too. Seems to be they’re running on weekends to service Verbio, as I’ve seen 340 there on weekends a number of times recently.
Grats on #300 James. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Steve
