Happy Valentines Day! Although I shot this from my locomotive as I passed Burlington West in 2016, I thought it was a good shot to share with my fellow "foamers" some of the changes that Metrolinx will make starting February 14/20.

On February 14th 2020, it will be the last day of operation of the Toronto RTC Center. The last territory will be transitioned in 2 phases.

At 0030 on February 14 , the following territory will be moved to Edmonton and remain under CN control. The
limit of the territory consisting of:
Halton sub mile 0.0 to mile 43.1,
York sub mile 6.5 to mile 25.0 and
Bala sub mile 16.02 to mile 29.8

At 0230 on February 15 , the following territory will be moved to the Metrolinx RTC Office and will be under
the control of Metrolinx RTC. The limit of the territory consisting of:
Oakville sub mile 1.1 to mile 32.06,
Newmarket sub mile 3.0 to mile 62.8,
Weston sub mile 1.9 to mile 16.8
Pearson sub mile 0.0 to mile 1.8 and
Bala sub mile 2.1 to mile 16.02

I not sure if the radio frequencies will be different, but I am sure those who listen in will have no problem monitoring the train movements.

A very big day for Metrolinx for sure!!

  1. Nice shot Phil! Changes, changes to RTC’s. I still remember listening to NI for all Niagara. Will they be transferring the GO Subdivision as well, also do these changes mean this Subs, or Portions of certain ones will be removed from the CN TT?

  2. @homerjay84. I think the GO sub will be dispatched by Metrolinx. The RTC operations building in Oakville.
Basically, anywhere the GO trains operate will be under Metrolinx RTC. CN still owns and operates the Bala Sub north of Doncaster and the Halton Sub west of Halwest to Silver.

  4. Great shot Phil ! Decades ago I used to ride GO cab cars all the time, great photo opportunities out the left front window and a chance to chat with some engineers who left the cab door open . Then they removed the front (backward facing seat ) from passenger use putting up the barrier wall with windows, but could still take pictures through “the glass “ until everything was blocked off. Always liked the 200 series cab cars , and see the odd one still in cab service. Thanks for sharing this picture. Question, is the Union Station Operating Corridor being operated from Oakville GO RTC Centre ?
    Thanks

  5. Channel tones will still be the same for the Weston sub afaik, even the phone numbers so I’ve been told, I believe it has changed for the Bala for us to *5220#.
It sounds funny hearing CDW saying CN RTC Tor-….. Edmonton, over…

  6. Wow..when you think back to the old territories; YA, YB, YQ, and YO looking after the Halton, York, Oakville and Kingston Subs, CB in Capreol, NI from London working the Grimsby sub……Channel 8 Tone 2…..

  7. LOL@Snake2. My biggest fan :-)

  8. @railwayguy. Yes those were the good old days. I operated the GO trains for 2 1/2 years. When i ran the 200 series cab cars I really enjoyed them. I never felt unsafe. I know in the US some guys called then “coffin cars”. I did not mind talking to passengers or letting them take pics from the door window. Then the company did not want the public to distract the engineer from their duties so we had to close the door or block public access to the first row of seats.
The USRC will still be operated by the 3 towers, but eventually USRC will be under the RTC control. Not sure when that will take place.

  9. @Dave Brook….those were the days my friend. It was a lot more enjoyable for sure.
