Caption: CP and CN were following each other all over town on this particular Saturday. Just prior to this shot, CN had just gone up to Railcare and Bell & MacKenzie. They dropped one car at Railcare and lifted another (the TIMX hopper pictured - one that is often seen at Bunge in Hamilton), and lifted one empty from Bell & MacKenzie (the two-bay CSX pictured). While CN was at Bell & MacKenzie, CP dropped one boxcar at Railcare. Next, it was over to the Ottawa Street North area for both, pictured here. CP was there to drop four cars at the interchange for CN - three loaded centrebeams (likely for Turkstra Lumber on the Grimsby) and one tank. CN meanwhile was shoving past on the N&NW Spur, heading eastward. The crew member standing in the foreground was on CP TH31, but he was nice enough to line the switch for the crew of the CN 0600 Yard Job. Once CN shoved past, CP pulled east across Ottawa Street North to clear a switch, and shoved back to set the cars off for CN. Next stop for both was National Steel Car, where they each pulled a pretty big string of cars out - both doubling their trains there. Among CP's pull was new cars for American Iron & Metal, which they later dropped off at AIM's Hamilton facility that very afternoon - about 1.5km away (as the crow flies) from where they were manufactured by NSC.
The full set of power for CP on this day was 3033, 3042 and 3040. The CN 0600 was CN 9416 and GMTX 2289.

Michael Da Costa pointed out elsewhere that it’s possible those centrebeams could be for Bartram Lumber as well, also on the Grimsby Sub.
There is cnr and cpr interchange occurring in Hamilton and it could be for anywhere in the interchange radius of both lines.
Sor handled this traffic even though some of it did not originate or terminate on their line, as you stated below, Bartram on the Grimsby could come from the CPR here.
I’m a little confused by what you’re saying. I’ve seen plenty of traffic interchanged here that originates and terminates in Hamilton. Just from anectodal observation hoppers and tanks to and from Bunge, cars for Parkdale Warehousing immediately come to mind.
Correct. Most certainly local stuff too. But there is interchange here that leaves Hamilton is what i am saying. Could be for apache plastics, hercules, sun chemical on the cnr in Burlington for example. Or maybe cnr cars for barnes or smithville. I do not know the extent of the reach of the hamilton Interchange though.

Smithville is switched by the Welland crew. Seen TE21 there a couple of times. Cars interchanged at Southern Yard.
I’ll clarify the point:
SOR handled traffic that did not originate or terminate on their line, which was ultimately cars for CNR/CPR interchange. This would have been , for all purposes Bridge Traffic for the SOR.
It was surprising to me to learn that fact, I would have thought the would interchange it elsewhere and eliminate SOR from the equation. (CPR does this in Kitchener – nothing is interchanged to GJR/OSR by CP for CNR in Guelph or areas near Guelph, it all goes via Kitchener instead) Interchanges are complicated business that are difficult to understand and I don’t know the half of it.
