Caption: It is a physically demanding job but somebody has got to do it. In this case, it is one of the very few women I have seen on the railroad, taking charge.
Under her watchful eyes, CN #381 backs to a joint before heading westbound.
I am at Howard Rd in Aldershot.
This image is over 25 years old. Makes me wonder if the young lady toughed it out and made a career out of the railroad or not. If so, she is probably retired by now.

Did you hit on her?
I was waiting for that comment. Smart woman stays on the other side of the rails. )
Mercer probably knows her LOL
I too was waiting for that comment.
No, I didn’t work in T&E service for CN (only C&O and OSR).
Is there a rule violation taking place here ??
LMAO, you guys are soooo bad ????
No violations noted. Just a railroader at work.
If Arnie is on Howard Road, which is south of the main, and this is 381 doubling back to their train, then why is the angle cock closed on the standing portion??
Sleuth!!! I had to go and find the negs, of which I do not have prints of most; and I see now she rode the hopper on the right towards the joint, so this means the train is an eastbound. Of course. Not only is this not a #381, this is also the wrong date. It should be May, not March. Note the green grass. The notes, 25 years old, are messed up. No hope for this one. Thanks, BEM’r.
This pic looks like it was taken on that old access road to the right off the end of Howard rd…which is now track 3….An eastbound coupling that far back from King Road ?
It has me thinking too, but all I would recall is that I was at Howard Rd. We could go either right or left along the RoW for a hundred feet or more and park. I thought this pic was right by Ted’s Auto Repair shop, but not sure.
Must have been distracted. )
I think this is to the right..almost at Aldershot Cold Storage….in the background you can see broken pavement…which is where you could drive down to on the north side – before they closed it off in the early nineties.
Also note she isn’t wearing high-visibility reflective gear…sign of the times And that wasn’t even that long ago.
Very true, Kevin. But she was still ‘highly visible’ to me. )
@awmooney: All I can do is laugh
