The early bird, in this case, gets more GMD-1′s. And a fine pair they are. Good effort James.
This is awesome. Great work Jamie.
Interesting to see the progression from James Gardiner’s post today to the GMD1′s ultimate destination. But I understand the units are picked back up on the return A43531 or another so get in. And great catch it was! Very nice.
Thanks all.
439 drops power for 514 and the following 438 takes the power back to London. These units were on 438 last night.
Right 435 terminates at London..439 picked them up. Already gone then. Glad you boys were able to capture the two!
They’re in London as far as I know.
I like how the only ditch lights on each of the GMD-1s is on the short hood. So in the above orientation this set of power has no ditch lights in leading in either direction. Gives it an old-school look that fits very nicely with this “branchline” operation. Very nice work James!
Great shot Jamie. Is that not a set of the “portable” ditch lights laying on the front walkway on the 1444? Almost looks like it.
You’re a good friend Jamie, but I do kinda hate you right now. Very jealous hahahah
Hahaha. Thanks again all.
Jacob, might be an SBU?
Has anyone seen a GMD1 run long hood forward on the mainline? I thought ditch lights were a requirement?
Asked and answered..sort of..http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=40138
Not sure if that example is any more relevant than this one, Brad. These guys would’ve run on the main of the Chatham Sub to get to the Sarnia Spur. In that example, they come off the N&NW and then onto the Oakville Sub and back to the yard. In the times a GMD-1 led Triple 5 on the Grimsby and Oakville Subs proper, it was short hood forward. I am sure though just based on sheer probability that it wouldn’t be very hard to find other past examples of other Oakville Sub jobs (like 554 for example) where they ran with a GMD-1 long hood forward.
Brad yes.

Notch 8 getting up to 60 mph too.
Notice how the ditch lights dissapeared.
That’s awesome Steve! Yeh..what about those lights? Not bothered to repace?
And thanks James! Figured he wouldn’t be on the main proper. Great stuff. Now I need the Rapido model! Ditch lights removed of course.
Very, very nice picture James, seeing a pair of GMD1’s on their own always makes a good picture. And very interesting to see the ADM elevators at Blenheim. How often do they serve this elevator complex ? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks railwayguy. About once a week service. Sometimes 514 doesn’t run in a given week, and some weeks when they do run they don’t go to Blenheim (only Thamesville). There have also been weeks when they go twice. But once weekly is the norm.
