Caption: The IC-3 Flexliner demonstrator, one of 2 sets running over VIA in hopes that they might catch on, was something of a bust. These units were designed and built by ADtranz, a new company spinoff of Daimler-Benz and ABB. In Ontario they first hit the scene the 29th of Sept 1996 and were pulled the next day. One of the flaws was they did not reliably activate track circuity. After 7 weeks of modifications and tests they went back into service. One set ran until late March and the other early May 1997. VIA said no to them. This image shows a Niagara-bound set crossing Bridge 6 over the Welland Canal on a rather gloomy day. In Europe over 200 sets of these Flexliners were in operation in mid 1996.
