T'was Chistmas eve, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.  Until CP 7006 west came barreling through Campbellville like a bat out of hell - the fastest train I've EVER seen go up the grade and that includes light power! This was a 40 car train too. Talk about wanting to get home on time for Christmas (I don't blame the crew one bit). According to the RTC 246 had power problems (again) but managed to get going and gave the hill the show it hasn't seen in a long time. To boot - this train sounded nothing short of amazing, with the new EMD product in the lead, 3063 trailing and a GE of some kind in third, EMD was surely the dominant sound.br>
On that note - Merry Christmas from my family to yours - to all of our feller photographers, our volunteers who help make all these great photos get posted (all the back room photo editors, photo scanners, information/caption teams, moderators, database team, and social media butterflies) - all the railway employees in and outside the cab - and to all our viewers and fans all around the world, thanks for a great year and here's to many more. Wait, what about our Significant others that miss us all so much :) I forgot them. Hint: it's time to spend some time with them if you can :) but if you really don't want to, we'll have your company here :) Beers are the fridge. Cheers!

    I shall add to Steve’s commentary that the boys did not sound too pleased at Kinnear that they were to be delayed for a northbound. They announced they were ready to depart southbound from Kinnear long before the northbound even made it past the siding at Smithville. (hint, hint)
    It was past 1600 hrs before #246 even made it to Grassie, mile 41.56. I felt not only sorry for them, I felt sorry for ME, patiently waiting. :o )

  6. They were supposed to take 247 back home also. I thought I heard 247 was already at welland.

  7. There was still some sun yesterday when he went by me; and right now it is a heavy mist all over. No good for shooting. My assumption was they were only going to Welland yesterday.

  8. 247 came back last night and much earlier than usual.

  10. Thanks James. Was it the same power or different power? The crew was supposed to take 247 back ex Welland – I assumed it might have been another train but they could have short turned 246 at Welland instead. I know 246 had work at welland also.

  11. Yeah same power and 7006 led back as OS’d on the Galt. Not sure where they wyed it.. very curious if anyone knows. The connecting track to the Stamford? A little confusing that the power was turned around if they didn’t go to Buffalo

  13. James, they swung the power around at Brookfield East. Since the trailing unit was set-up in distributive power mode it was unable to lead. As far as I know, 246 dropped off their train at Welland, wyed the power and then picked up 247′s traffic.

    Arnold, hopefully you managed to get something at Grassie. I had the agonizing misfortune of getting stuck behind a slow-moving propane truck and holiday drivers near Vinemount. 10 seconds sooner and I would’ve had a photo of them passing through the field there in golden evening light. Drats! As Host said, they were an absolute rocket – 13 minutes from Kinnear to Vinemount. Better luck to us next time.
