Caption: Beautiful sunny but very crisp icy morning in Owen Sound CP yard as the old CVR 136 4-4-0 Rogers steam engine (built 1883) is steaming up for the return trip south to Toronto as the second leg of the Toronto to Owen Sound Thanksgiving Weekend trip is about to get under way.
Time of photo is about 0730, the sun is just waking up as well.
This certainly was a memorial trip as what could go wrong did, on the return; resulting in us getting back to Toronto at some early hour, maybe 0400, maybe 0500; I really do not remember. I just recall the article in the Toronto Star titled, "38 Miles in 11 Hours". Something I would never forget, for I had to be at work at 0730 that morning in St. Catharines.
Why so late? Bad coal. And farmers fence posts just did not keep the steam up.
I'm sure everyone that went on this trip behind "National Dream" 136 and 4-6-0 #1057 will never forget it.

LOL. Now its a regular thing on #1 or #2 to/from vancouver
The bigger question is: did the shelves get stocked on time?
Funneeee, Snake.
What really happened was I gothome about 0630, then into work after having coffee while in the bath trying to shake myself awake….and in came the Supervisor to see me about 20 minutes after I started work. He says “What the hell happened to you”??? He did not believe my story but rather figured I was out all night with a woman co-worker he didn’t particularly like and thought she had done me in but I had not even seen her in a few days. )
Like how often is anyone out all night on a train? Quite the experience.
I’m pretty sure that is the late Roger Heed at the throttle.
The bald guy with red hood looks like Grant Kingsland. He looked after 6213 when it was the Exibition. We used to call him Mr 6213.
Bruce: You just know everyone, don’t you? )
Thanks for this.
