More than twenty years ago during a much simpler time and prior to the creation of the light rail network, Waterloo-St. Jacobs Railway (WSJR) 6508 leads a northbound excursion through Waterloo Park on the CN Waterloo Spur.

The WSJR was a heritage/tourist railway that operated between Waterloo and St. Jacobs, Ontario from 1997 to 1999 on the CN Waterloo Spur utilizing FP9u's 6508 and 6520. The railway had ceased operations during 2000 citing rising maintenance expenses that deemed the operation no longer profitable.

  1. Thanks for sharing Jason! So much has changed here. Nice to see that 6508 lives on with the OSR!

  2. Thank you Kevin. Yeah its crazy how this area in Waterloo has changed so dramatically.

  3. Sister 6520 on the other end of the train has just be unveiled in CN style paint scheme (Red & White) restored by WCRA and once again in operating condition in Squamish.

6508 is in regular freight operation on OSR. It was OSR’s purchase of this unit that made it possible for WCRA to afford the moving costs to get 6520 to BC.

  4. @R.L.Kennedy- Thanks for the additional information on 6520. I just saw a photo of it today in the new CN paint and it looks quite sharp.
