Caption: The 1980's were a transition era for the TTC's streetcar fleet: the introduction of new CLRV streetcars in the late 70's/early 80's displaced a lot of the aging PCC fleet, notably the remaining secondhand cars the TTC bought. Most of the A6-A8 class PCC's built new for the TTC (4300's, 4400's and 4500's) continued to soldier on side-by-side with the CLRV fleet, but the later arrival of the articulated ALRV's in the mid-late 80's culled most of the fleet. A group of the A8's were rebuilt as 4600-series A15's, and used for a few more years of service on the new Harbourfront LRT line into the 90's.

Here, TTC PCC 4473 (an A7-class car built in 1949) and CLRV 4059 (a new CLRV built in 1980) wait on Dundas Street for the light at Bay Street, next to a Ford L-series "Louisville" truck operated by Tippet-Richardson, a popular moving company around the city at the time. The new Atrium on Bay (built early 80's) towers on the left, and the Eaton Centre's north tower (that contained Eaton's head offices) as well as their parking garage line the south side of Dundas. In the background is Yonge Street, and Ryerson's Victoria Building (seen here).
