Caption: On the one year anniversary of GEXR's retreat I offer this frame. This had to be the most peaceful outing I ever had. Let out of work early, and a Kodachrome sky on hand I had a half day to kill so I went to Kitchener photographing 580 as they came back in, while 3821 worked the yard. They called themselves 584, my luck runneth over as the train ran north to Elmira which was somewhat rare at the time. What's peaceful is because it's Christmas eve it would seem EVERYONE was let home early - there wasn't a single soul at Chemtura - no one at any of the adjacent businesses where I scoped out various vantage points such as this one, no one, nothing, just me and the two friendly GEXR crew. I felt like I could have walked in with the railway crew and out and no one would have noticed, but I didn't dare because before this place was bought by Lanxess their security was known to kick you off the property.

The similarities of gexr’s logo to Bessemer is also intriguing. a copy no doubt.
Steve, was Lanxess and it’s predecessors serviced the same as CN and it’s operating predessors as I understand cars are shoved 4 miles from Waterloo. If that indeed is the operation as it looks to be closest runaround. And for the 4 mile shove..why no shoving platform?
No shove, they have a run around in elmira.
They occasionally shoved from Waterloo but I only saw that once in 2005. Posted shots too on this site, its a fertilizer train for a long gone customer.
GEXR never really shoved that often up there, CN didn’t pre 98 and I doubt they shove now.
Brad I think you may be confusing with the Fergus spur to Galt. Shoving moves back south have been fairly regular depending on who is on the job. Saves about an hour of moves not having to run around.. but makes for a long time hanging off a centrebeam.
That shove you saw Steve was certainly a rare move. I remember seeing those hoppers in Waterloo at the time. Very nice Elmira shot as well. A nice early Christmas gift from GEXR.
Noe I worked beside the line as you may recall – for 8 years. I heard a train go by and watched a 25 car hopper train go north.. they ran to Waterloo, shoved a bunch of cars in the siding, at the same time did a run around move then shoved north with 5 or 6 cars to the fertilizer plant. I chased
