Caption: TTC A6-class PCC 4363, operating westbound on the Carlton route, pauses to talk to the operator of eastbound PCC 4707 (an A13-class ex-Birmingham car) near the corner of College Street and St. George Street on the Canada Day weekend of July 1972. Both cars are operating on temporary diversion tracks laid on the south side (eastbound lanes) of College, due to a road cave-in (note the excavator working in the background). Temporary tracks or "shoeflies" were often used by the TTC to keep streetcars operating over a road when construction was going on, or as an alternative to diverting the route down adjacent roadways. The University of Toronto's Wallberg Memorial building is visible on the right.
