Caption: After chasing the GWR to Verwood I went down towards Coronach to see if the Poplar River Mine Railway was running. They were not unfortunately, though I was able to see the "new" unit GWR had left on them at the "interchange" (if you can call it that) near Coronach. This unit had formerly been at an elevator in Unity, Saskatchewan, but seemingly is going to replace or supplement one of the two SD40-2s on the Poplar River currently. Other RP contributors have shot the Poplar River in the past, such as Bill Hopper. It is an interesting and mostly captive operation, with them shuttling a small string of coal hoppers back and forth from the mine to the power plant, a distance of about a dozen miles with a relatively small loop track at both ends. Not much ever comes in or out of this operation from what I gather.
Somewhat noteworthy as well was the number of the new K+S potash hoppers in storage nearby and throughout the GWR network overall. These hoppers had just recently rolled off the line at NSC in Hamilton.
