Caption: A recent post brought to mind this photo I took back in 1986. I think the time was around 20:00 on this evening when the Mixed train passed through Redwater. It was this car next to the coaches that sent me out to take pictures (besides the sun being out :-) ). On a few occasions, old cars like this were sent north to serve some purpose. I also noted on a couple of occasions, when returning home, some of these cars ended up at the car recycling facility, located just north of Edmonton on the Coronado Sub. I did check, not deeply extensive but looked, could not find any info for some history. The word FUEL is probably what the car was still being used for. Of interest, on the leading wheel, on the rear truck, the side of the wheel next to the axle can be seen. Looking carefully, you can see it has the curved fins to aid in cooling. Tonight's Muskeg Mixed consisted of 5585 and 5580 (GP38's) up front, behind tank 16025 is baggage cars 7855 and 7856 with coach 5099 and ex-NAR caboose 79101. Shot at mile 34. One last oddity, the flat car and tank 16025 both have upright brake wheels, don't see that to often anymore.
