Caption: I had the week of July 22 off work, and spent it hanging around back home in Norfolk. In addition to going to the beach every day, I got in a fair bit of railfanning with T72 in Ayr, some OSR chases, and a few trips over to the Garnet area.
On this particular afternoon in Garnet I found 591 working with the 4001 on point, with its long hood forward. This configuration in Garnet is not uncommon, and I have seen their units set up this way many times in the past several months when I pass by going between Hamilton and Simcoe (as recently as a few days prior to this shot). It would seem as if they actually go out of their way for this configuration. The previous evening I was also out checking on things, and 4001 was on the opposite end of 2081 and 2111 at the time, so they must have run it around to the south end before they started working on this day. Perhaps they prefer to work in this unit, which is interesting because I recall hearing Hamilton crews complaining about it over the radio.
