In the depths of Hamilton's industrial area, CN's 1500 Yard Job is grabs a cut of cars that they must have set off before going to serve another customer (as the cars were sitting on what would be the "main" for this area), and a crew member prepares to throw the derail to switch out Contanda Terminals. I got back on 'home turf' and railfanned again here in Hamilton a bit more this past week or so, and it felt good to be back to seeing these industrial operations. On the other end of 7016 in the shot is 4762. As of August 10, this power set had a GMTX unit tacked onto the other side of 7016, and all three are facing the same direction for their short and long hoods.

  1. You like taking photos where I do. :-)
If you keep your ear to the rail in these areas you can have neat stuff turn up.

  2. I see westway has a new name. Larry you need to visit Hamilton, it would be your paradise.

  3. Here’s more info about their Hamilton terminal:

    https://www.contanda.com/contanda-locations/hamilton-on/

  4. My first early jobs had me busy working in refineries and chemical plants before saying to myself, enough shift work, then taking up land surveying. I do miss those early roots. If it hadn’t been the shift work I could have easily stayed. Seeing distillation towers and storage tanks in the photos gets me going. :-)
Been doing house reno’s this summer. Will look seriously at going east next year.

OMG there is this red sunny thing shining in the east this morning. Haven’t hardly seen it all summer. Craziest summer weather I have seen. The only bonus is everybody’s lawn is so green for this late in the year.

  5. Interesting. Hamilton is good because you won’t be bothered too much by security.

Sarnia however, where you’ll be more at home, is a security nightmare if you try to do too many photos you WILL get spoken to. :)

    (near the plants, that is)

Weather wise it’s been nothing but sunny and dry for a while, so much so our grass is dead (except the parts my wife continues to water… hence.. needs to be cut!). Darnit!

  6. Did someone swipe the digits? I guess whe I run out of numbers for my models I don’t have to use creative license and can model the real thing!

Steve, remember we tons of rain before Summer kicked in at July 1. Roomate laid seed last Year so the mower has been out quite often this Year!
